We'll begin with a demo and lesson. Weather permitting, we will go outside for plein air painting. This Inn has a breathtaking view, visible from the lawn, porch, and parlor. We will do studies of sky, water, and rocks, culminating in a finished painting (or two) of a seascape. Your instructor will call to discuss materials and details.

International Fusion Homestyle Cooking for a Crowd engages all the senses. Cooking instructor and author of 6 cookbooks, Chris Toy has been teaching Asian themed and fusion recipes privately, for community education statewide, Stonewall Kitchen Cooking School in York, La Roux Kitchen in Portland, and Now You're Cooking in Bath. Together you'll prepare great tasting lunches and hearty dinners for yourselves and fellow artists. Instruction will include selection and care of tools, (knives, woks, cast iron) history of recipes (back stories) , finding, choosing and preparing ingredients (shopping tips) , and techniques for getting great results in record time (tips and tricks). All supplies and tools will be provided..We'll be hands-on so bring your aprons, cutting boards, and hand towels.

Acadia National Park’s Schoodic Point is arguably one of the most beautiful places in Acadia National park! Stay on campus in the midst of Schoodic point to paint, cook, and enjoy one of the most beautiful places on the coast of Maine. You'll get to participate in hands-on workshops in Watercolor Painting on the Coast of Maine, and International Cooking with an intimate group of artists and cooks.

We will stay at the Schoodic Education and Research Center (SERC), in the midst of Acadia National Park.. Its scenic setting on the rugged coast of the Atlantic Ocean offers easy access to coastline habitat, intertidal zones, and spruce/fir forests.

This location is a birding hotspot and has the darkest night skies in the United States, with more visible stars than anywhere else on the coast of Maine. Bring your camera, lawn chair and binoculars. Get ready for stargazing with Chris Toy, registered Maine Guide, and a bird walk with National Park Bird Ecology Director, Seth Benz.

Day students are very welcome.

Join us for a fantastic weekend immersed in Plein Air Watercolor or Cooking workshops by the water in Kennebunkport Maine. (Choose one option for the weekend) Expert instructors and small class sizes ensures personalized attention to take your passion for painting or cooking to the next level. When you register for the option you select from below, you will be prompted to choose between Painting or Cooking. Only one option may be selected.

Watercolor Painting is an exciting medium; it flows and moves and does beautiful things. Instructor Mary Laury has been recognized for her work by the Maine Arts Commission. Workshop participants will do landscapes and seascapes in this 4 session course. If you have never painted in watercolors we will start at the beginning. If you have painted before, you may pick up some new tips and tricks as well. We all learn together!

A total of 12 hours of painting; Friday afternoon demo and lesson, Saturday morning demo and Saturday afternoon outside plein air painting. Sunday morning we'll finish up with show and tell. We will do studies of sky, water, and rocks, culminating in a finished painting (or two) of a seascape. Materials will be provided, but bring what you have. Some basic suggestions to bring if you have them; pencil, eraser, ruler, tape, sketch paper, Viva paper towels, a small water container, clipboard, and a bag to put them in. Feel free to bring your own favorite brushes and other equipment.

Cooking engages all the senses. For more than 40 years Chris Toy has shared his love of cooking with students across Maine. We’ll have 12 hours together including field trips to local fish and farmers markets as well as the international section of nearby grocers. We’ll prepare 4 complete meals; Dinner on Friday, Saturday lunch and dinner, and Sunday breakfast. Workshops will include selecting ingredients and caring for tools including boards, knives, woks, and pasta makers. Recipes will include but not be limited to handmade tortillas, noodles, stuffed pastas, sauces, cast iron cooking, maki rolls, Asian hotpot, and desserts. Dietary requirements and preferences will be accommodated with advance notification.
